We’ll learn about the baptistery, the Santa Reparata Cathedral, the city’s first cathedral whose remains can still be seen under the Duomo, the current Cathedral with its breathtaking facade, and Giotto’s bell tower with its many sculptures. Your expert guide will also talk about the ‘Loggia del Bigallo’, a late Gothic building linked with fraternities dealing with local charity, and the ‘misericordia’, the oldest brotherhood for the care of the sick and the oldest private voluntary institution in the world, still active since its foundation.
Dome ClimbThen the magic continues as you climb Brunelleschi’s Dome (with skip the line Florence Duomo tickets), the largest of its kind in the world and the symbol of the city. There are 3600 square metres of frescoes covering the inside of the dome, making it the largest painted surface in the world. You will get to see these frescoes close up as your guide brings them to life in front of your very eyes through their intriguing commentary and explanation. You will get an incredible view of the inside of the dome from a height and then your climb up the last part will help you understand the genius behind the build, as you walk through the two shells and see the brickwork up close. As you ascend, the fact that it was built without using scaffolding will take on a whole new meaning!
